Gotta love Mel Gibson. He is such a great actor, so him teaming up with M Night Shyamalan was bound to produce sweet results. I liked The Sixth Sense (partly because Bruce Willis is so good) but like Signs better. There is a lot of depth to the theme, the story is beautifully delivered, the suspense is... suspenseful. Normally I'd go for a movie with more humor (although there are some pretty funny scenes in this one) or more action, but Signs is just so well done it's difficult not to love. The conflict between and within characters is great, the theme is thoughtful, and this movie is scary without being completely weird and screwed up. All of the above earn Signs 4 of 5 points from me -- a type of movie I don't usually like, strung together in a scary and captivating fashion.
